Privacy Policy

Indiana Building Permits republishes public building-plan-review records from the Indiana Department of Homeland Security, along with map coordinates we generate from each project's address. The underlying permit data (owner names, addresses, project details, and similar) is public record -- it is not information we collect about you as a visitor.

This site collects a limited amount of information about the people who visit it:

• Basic usage analytics. We use Vercel Web Analytics (cookieless, and doesn't track you across other websites) and Google Analytics to see how many people visit which pages and how they use the site. Unlike Vercel Web Analytics, Google Analytics does use cookies and can track usage across visits -- see "Advertising and cookies" below for how to limit that.
• Contact form submissions. If you use the "Contact / Feedback" button, we collect whatever you enter -- your email address, an optional name, and your message -- solely to respond to you. Submissions are sent by email via Resend and are not used for any other purpose or shared with anyone else. The form is protected by Cloudflare Turnstile, a captcha-style check that processes some technical browser information to confirm you're not an automated script; we don't see or store that information ourselves.
• Custom Alerts accounts. If you sign up for Custom Alerts, we store your email address, the saved search criteria for each alert you create, and a session token (set as a cookie) that keeps you signed in for 30 days after clicking a sign-in link -- sign-in is passwordless, so we never store a password. If you subscribe to a paid alert, Stripe handles your payment directly; we store the Stripe-assigned customer and subscription IDs needed to manage your billing, but never your card number or other payment details -- those stay with Stripe. This information is used only to run the alerts and billing features themselves (sending you digest emails, keeping your subscription in sync) and isn't shared with anyone else or used for advertising.
• Basic request data. Like most websites, our infrastructure temporarily processes IP addresses to keep the site running smoothly and to limit automated abuse (for example, scripts attempting to bulk-download data). This is handled by Upstash and is not linked to any other information about you.

This site shows ads served by Google AdSense and uses Google Analytics for traffic measurement. Google and its advertising partners use cookies both to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site or other websites, and to measure how the site is used. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and other sites on the internet.

You can opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings, or opt out of a number of third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising by visiting aboutads.info.

We rely on the following outside services to run the site. Each has its own privacy policy:

• Google (AdSense, Analytics, Ads Settings)
• Vercel (hosting, Web Analytics)
• Neon (database hosting)
• Cloudflare (Turnstile spam protection)
• Resend (contact form and sign-in email delivery)
• Upstash (rate limiting)

You can use most of this site without providing any personal information at all -- browsing and searching permit records doesn't require it. Personal information is only collected if you submit the contact form or create a Custom Alerts account. California residents and residents of other states with similar laws may have additional rights regarding personal information; the cookie opt-out links above are the most direct way to limit ad-related and analytics data use. If you have a Custom Alerts account and want your saved alerts and account data deleted, or have any other questions about your options, use the "Contact / Feedback" button on any page.

This site is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
